Sustainability
Noordhuys is committed to a future-proof horticulture sector. We believe in the power of cooperation and build sustainable relationships with our partners, suppliers and customers. By producing in a sustainable manner, we ensure a minimal ecological footprint while maintaining maximum (product) quality. Noordhuys also likes to contribute to society and is involved in local sponsoring initiatives and charities.
Water
At Noordhuys, we aim to use water as efficiently as possible. 100% of our water used in cultivation is collected and circulated. Smart techniques ensure that we can reuse this water.
Other technologies allow the computer to calculate exactly what a plant needs in terms of nutrients and water. This always ensures optimal dosing, so no water and nutrients are lost. We also use rainwater, which is collected in our water basins.
Energy
Growing our products requires energy, namely heat, carbon dioxide (CO2) and electricity. Noordhuys limits its energy consumption to only what is necessary. This is made possible by the use of combined heat and power plants (CHP), among other things. A CHP is a system in which natural gas is converted into electricity, CO2 and heat. The resulting CO2 and heat are used to grow our plants. We partly use the electricity generated by the cogeneration plants ourselves to light our greenhouses. We feed the remaining electricity back to the grid.
Biology
Noordhuys thinks a healthy product is important. That is why we focus on biological crop protection in preventing and controlling diseases and pests. Pollination of our plants is taken care of entirely by bumblebees. We also use beneficial insects such as ichneumon wasps and predatory bugs to protect our crops. This is how we ensure a biological balance in our greenhouses.
